EDASS-128-TEXT-OUTPUT-with-.TEXT -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TOOL: EDASS-128 {Commodore C128 EDITOR & ASSEMBLER} Language: Assembler Extra: - Author: Misel Zivanovic Note: (C) 7th FEB 2026 - www.lived.ch, mzretro.ch --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What i have noticed while using EDASS-128, is how .TEXT is not {always} displaying the actual text. Instead, a graphics symbols were displayed if you use big characters set and it'll be correct when you use small characters set. Check screenshots to see the differences! {on the webpage, of course, not here you dummy, hehe} The cheapest workaround solution for this would be to switch your program to small char set: lda #$0e jsr $ffd2 But this would limit your usage because turning it back to capitol would destroy the view. And you won't be able to have the first letter in capitol! Other possibility would be to use .BYTE and using hex numbers, but that is the pain in the butt! {and actually what i was using so far, haha. I was back then new to assembly and that was then the perfect solution. Today, i am a bit smarter and we will find a bit smarter solution} --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- EXAMPLE 1: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- {Not working well with capitol characters} {But you can use small char set and then it'll be good, but not if you turn capitol on again} textmode.asm -a:0010-a: -e: ;text in edass-128 ;-------------------------------------- *= $1300 .obj m .bank 15 ;-------------------------------------- ; lda #$93 jsr $ffd2 ; lda #$e ; jsr $ffd2 ; ldx #$00 am lda bye,x sta $0400,x inx cpx #$1c bne am rts ; ;goodbye message bye .text "goodbye amigo!" .text " see you soon!" --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- EXAMPLE 2: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This one will work with small and CAPITOL characters! Which is a good news... However, a COMBO of small/CAPITOL, e.g. Hello My City! ...will not work! Same issues in Example 1 Can this also be resolved...? I am, for my part, happy already with this solution. Just not using the .BYTE values for any text writing is a bless! Well, well, right, right... We can't stop here now, hehe! textmode.asm -a:0011-a: -e: ;text in edass-128 ;-------------------------------------- *= $1300 .obj m .bank 15 ;-------------------------------------- ; lda #$93 jsr $ffd2 ; lda #$e ; jsr $ffd2 ; ldx #$00 am lda bye,x sec sbc #$40 cmp #$e0 bcs repair ; cmp #$e1 ; beq goup ntext sta $0400,x inx cpx #$25 bne am rts repair sec sbc #$c0 jmp ntext ; ;goodbye message bye .text "goodbye amigo!" .text " see you soon!" .text "*!#$%&'()" --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- EXAMPLE 3: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I wish i knew this a 1 1/2 year ago! Not saying I am actually good at it now, but sure slightly better than before! Anyway... This code is making it all possible! Now you can write a combo of small and capitol letters and be haaapppyyy!!! {e.g. I Love C128! ;-)} It will work as you can see in the final screenshot! This code isn't much bigger than the previous one and is making you forget characters decoding. NOTE: All you need to do is stay in small character mode in EDASS-128 and enjoy the show! textmode.asm -a:0010-a: -e: ;text in edass-128 ;-------------------------------------- *= $1300 .obj m .bank 15 ;-------------------------------------- ; lda #$93 jsr $ffd2 ; lda #$e ; jsr $ffd2 ; ldx #$00 am lda bye,x cmp #$c1 bcc repair sec sbc #$80 ntext sta $0400,x inx cpx #$28 bne am rts repair cmp #$41 bcc nofix sec sbc #$40 jmp ntext nofix jmp ntext ; ;goodbye message bye .text "GoodBye Amigo! " .text "ThIs RealLy Is" .text "*!#$%&12345" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
